Oval Hole Andersen Mandolin

  • Price: $3100

This mandolin was built in 1992. It has a nice warm sound, with a little more sustain than a bluegrass mandolin. It has moderate fret and finish wear, but structurally it is in great condition.

Generally I make f-hole mandolins,  but for this instrument the customer wanted a non-bluegrass instrument, and changing from f-holes to an oval soundhole is the easiest way to get that. You lose the brightness and punch of a bluegrass instrument and gain warmth and sustain, making it good for a variety of musical styles. The bracing and graduation is very similar to an f-hole mandolin.

    Engelmann spruce top

    Western maple back and sides

    Schaller tuners

    Tortoise shell binding
