This unique guitar is a combination of two ideas that have been brewing for some time.

First, I had been thinking of building of building a guitar with an oval soundhole in the traditional location and orientation, as opposed to the version I normally build (click here) with the hole located in the upper left bout.

Second, it occurred to me that a pickup could be mounted in this soundhole. Doing so would allow for a wide variety of pickup choices. Normally, when installing a floating pickup, there are very few choices due to the limited amount of space between the top of the guitar and the strings. Because the pickup on this guitar extends down into the soundhole, I can choose larger pickups of the type that are normally installed on standard electric guitars. The pickup is mounted on a specially designed bracket. This gives an almost unlimited number of pickups from which to choose. The volume and tone controls are mounted in the face of the guitar.
