Fresh Fish is devoted to the occasional instrument that I build without having an order in hand, or "on spec." The reasons vary; often I'm trying new materials or design changes on a standard model. Other times it is the building of an entirely new model. In either case, the goal is the same: the freedom to try new ideas, expand my horizons, fly to the stars (whew!). Several important innovations first appeared on spec instruments: the upper-bout Oval soundhole, one-piece guitar backs, Red spruce tops, and others. Here's how works Fresh Fish works: several times a year, as time permits, I'll build an instrument based on what new designs or ideas are currently percolating in my head. These instruments are very limited - and they will be built in parallel with the instruments in my regular backlog. Because of this, they may be available sooner than an instrument ordered and placed on my backlog. As I'm "stretching my builder's legs," additional customization is not possible. In addition to new instruments, be sure and check out the "used items". This features used instruments offered for sale. Recently completed and available FF#21 Little Archie
Before the instrument is started, and while under construction, I'll post a description here, including the model, any special materials or features, and expected completion date. Since each Fresh Fish is extremely limited, this is your chance to own an instrument that may be truly unique. Fresh Fish may be purchased at any point. When the Fish is cooked, I'll have pictures and description available under "today's catch." If you are interested in knowing more about one of my special please drop a line in the Fish tank!
